Abstract / nonrepresentational paintings
My paintings are non-representational, as I have no desire to make comment or narrative about external worldly matters. The works operate as self-contained worlds exposing the physical process of painting, through construction and deconstruction of the surface. I often apply an additional skin of textile, with stitching, tearing and puncturing of the surface resulting in the works appearing quite bodily. Oscillating between excess and restraint, contrasts are presented. These contrasts are often achieved through a vertical division of parts, exposing light and dark, calm and unrest, disturbance and order, adding and removing paint until the work finds a resting place.
