176. Sculpture by the Lakes

FIVE ARTISTS EXHIBIT AT THE LAKES

For DAW 2018, Sculpture by the Lakes will be

hosting four Dorset based artists alongside

creator of the sculpture park, Simon Gudgeon,

who will also be exhibiting his work during the

two week county-wide arts festival.

Stonemason Kieran Bigg, oil painter Stephen

Bithell, fibre artist Carla Taylor and ceramicist

Suzette Knight, will be talking about and

demonstrating their work at various locations

around this unique arts venue.

Simon Gudgeon

is one of Britain’s leading

contemporary sculptors and is known for his

often very large-scale, semi-abstract forms,

created in his signature smooth style. Using a

stripped-back aesthetic, Simon takes nature as

a major influence, working directly from his

encounters with, and observations of, live

subjects and the natural world.

Kieran Bigg

works as a stonemason for a

number of restoration and new build projects.

Stephen Bithell

paints landscapes in oil on

board, working mainly plein air, capturing the

Dorset countryside in all its moods.

Carla Taylor

creates contemporary sustainable

wool sculptures inspired by the British

countryside and coastline using the technique

of needle felting.

Suzette Knight

makes unconventionally

beautiful handmade ceramics. She is inspired

by the effects of weathered surfaces and

textures and uses many different techniques to

make her unique pots.
