61. Group 7 at The Slade Centre

PAINTINGS, PRINTS, DRAWING AND FILM

The members of ‘group 7’ are all established artists who share a strong

commitment to the media of drawing, painting and printmaking.

United by their confidence in painting as a relevant and vital medium,

they aim to develop and substantiate the position of painting in

contemporary practice. All artists are producing powerfully mature and

expressive works, where colour is a common denominator.

The imagery in their work in some cases alludes to the physical world,

but is as strongly associated with the ability of colour or mark to carry

meaning and significance in their own right. Each member of ‘group 7’

exhibits individually in numerous galleries in the UK, EU and USA.

Work by the artists is held in public, corporate and private collections

and is included in many catalogues and books.

‘group 7’ have shown at The Slade Centre in 2014 and 2016 when their

work filled the gallery with colour and movement. For DAW 2018 'group

7' have made a short, intimate film about their working processes and life

in their studios. Hence the title of the exhibition -
